- Look In Your Own Back Yard. (c) 2005 By Liz Norman
If you have a huge budget for your wedding, this article isn?t
for you. Rather, it?s for all those struggling young couples who
want to make their wedding day all it can be without going into
debt.
The very best time of year to have your wedding reception is in
the spring and summer months. Even early fall works in most
climates. It?s during these months the flowers are blooming and
the grass is green. With that thought in mind, who do you know
who has a nice back yard? Maybe a relative-or even you?
In general, your wedding guests will enjoy themselves more
where they can kick back and feel comfortable. And where better
to do just that than in the great outdoors? Another bonus to
having a backyard wedding reception is you will save a ton of
money on decorations! What could be more beautiful than a
freshly mowed lawn, colorful flowers growing about, and a clear
blue sky?
When my oldest daughter married, there wasn?t much cash lying
around for a wedding reception. But, we did have a
well-maintained backyard containing an in-ground swimming pool.
My supermarket manager volunteered a fair-size roll of a very
light-wt. foam material, such as that used in meat packing
trays. Then my creative friends and I immediately got to work
and used it to create a ?Good Luck float? to center in the pool
for the reception.
As required by law, the pool area had a 6? high chain-link
fence surrounding it. Perfect! That was just what we needed to
secure the hundreds of appropriately colored tissue-paper
flowers a small group of us had made a couple of weeks before.
We then intertwined small white Christmas lights thru the fence.
When nightfall came and we turned on these lights, the pool
light and lit the Tiki torches, the whole scene transformed into
a fairyland.
The point is, ask for what you need and enhance what you
already have. And you too, can have a spectacular wedding
reception at very little cost. Yes you can!
